In 2025, we kicked off our boat build using traditional strip-plank construction.
 
Students started with the basics: layout, strongback, molds, stem, and transom. Once everything was aligned and faired, they milled western red cedar into strips and got ready for planking.
 
By December, they were shaping and fitting the first strips -- officially moving from setup to building the hull. More updates coming soon!
 

Greenhouse Project

Students worked on a hands-on greenhouse project that brought design and building together. Working with ZFA Engineering and QK Architects, students reviewed real plans, talked through design ideas, and turned drawings into a finished structure.
 
Along the way, they built a strong stem wall with a stone finish, created custom window sashes, and tackled the challenge of framing a dome at the top of the greenhouse. The project pushed students to problem-solve, work as a team, and learn advanced building skills. This greenhouse served as a capstone project that brought together everything students learned over two years into one meaningful build.
 
 
 

The Pavillion

Ever wonder how a building actually comes to life? Our students found out by designing and constructing a full-scale pavilion from the ground up. By partnering with local experts at QK Architects and ZFA Engineering, the class moved through every stage of the professional build process: sourcing timber from the sawmill, fabricating complex joinery, welding steel supports, and installing weather-resistant roofing. This isn't just shop class, it's the start of a career in industrial arts.

Chicken Coop Project

Students built a chicken coop from the ground up!
 

They started by preparing the site and pouring a solid foundation, then framed the walls, built the roof, and made sure everything was weatherproof.
 
Once the structure was finished, students installed doors, windows, gutters, and a water catchment system.  They learned about sustainability and smart design along the way. Best of all, the coop has a real purpose: the eggs are used by the school’s culinary program, connecting hands-on building with food production and community use.
